April 2027: The Early Easter Effect, Where to Go and When to Book

Timeless travel, whenever wherever.

Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027: one of the earliest Easter dates in recent years. That single shift changes the rhythm of spring travel: UK school holidays arrive in late March and early April, families begin searching sooner than expected, and the best calm hotels may disappear before the wider market catches up.

For many travellers, this is an unusual opportunity. Book early and you may find better choice, quieter locations and more considered all-inclusive options before prices respond. Travel in late March, where your dates allow, and you could also find a softer price point before Easter-week demand fully gathers.

🗓️ What the early Easter means for UK travellers

In many English and Welsh councils, the main Easter break is expected to run around Friday 26 March to Friday 9 April 2027, with pupils returning on Monday 12 April. That is not universal. Dates vary by council, school and nation. Scotland may use different weeks, and individual schools can set their own arrangements.

Always check your child’s school or local authority before booking.

The earlier calendar also makes timing more important. Eid al-Fitr is currently expected around 9–10 March 2027, subject to moon sighting, so Easter travel should generally follow Ramadan. However, late-March departures may still overlap with increased post-Eid travel demand in destinations such as Türkiye, Morocco, Egypt and the UAE. Confirm religious calendar dates before booking, particularly if your journey has a cultural or pilgrimage focus.

🌿 The best destinations for April 2027

Calm Cyprus spring coast with bougainvillea, turquoise water and a low-rise hotel among gardens

🇬🇷 Greek islands: Crete, Rhodes, Corfu and the Cyclades

Typical early-April conditions: Crete and Rhodes reach around 18–21°C by day and 10–14°C in the evening. Corfu and the Cyclades are often closer to 17–19°C by day and 10–13°C at night. Sea temperatures sit around 15–18°C: beautiful to look at, but cold for most swimmers.

Flight time: Approximately 3¼–4¼ hours from the UK, depending on the island and departure airport.

Greek islands in April are about luminous walking weather, ancient stones warming in the afternoon sun and quiet harbours before summer arrives. Crete suits food, history and scenic drives; Rhodes brings medieval streets and dramatic coastlines; Corfu is ideal for olive groves and elegant villages; the Cyclades offer whitewashed lanes without the intensity of July.

Easter is deeply important in Greece, but Greek Orthodox Easter falls on 2 May 2027, later than Western Easter. If you travel over the UK Easter break, you may find sunny islands with a more peaceful atmosphere rather than the full Orthodox Easter celebrations. For the traditional experience, return in late April or early May.

Best for: Culture, walking, food, scenic exploring and couples who prefer atmosphere over swimming.

Less suitable for: Anyone expecting guaranteed hot weather, warm sea or a full resort programme.

Calm hotel style: Low-rise properties with gardens in villages outside the busiest resort strips, especially small boutique hotels and family-run stays. Heated pools are worth prioritising.

🇨🇾 Cyprus: the strongest Mediterranean compromise

Typical conditions: Around 21–23°C by day and 11–14°C in the evening. Sea temperatures are approximately 18–19°C, refreshing rather than warm.

Flight time: Roughly 4–4½ hours from the UK.

Cyprus is one of the best bets for genuinely pleasant early-April sunshine. Paphos offers harbour walks, archaeological sites and quiet coastal hotels; Larnaca combines an easy beach atmosphere with excellent food; the Troodos hills bring pine-scented villages, mountain views and cooler air.

The beaches may look ready for summer, but the water remains cool. Choose a hotel with a heated pool if swimming matters.

Best for: Families wanting sunshine without a long-haul flight, couples, walking and gentle sightseeing.

Less suitable for: Travellers seeking guaranteed hot evenings or warm Mediterranean swimming.

Calm hotel style: Garden resorts in Coral Bay, quieter Paphos outskirts or villages near the Troodos foothills. Upgraded transfers can make the journey from the airport especially easy for families.

🇹🇷 Türkiye: coast, culture and Cappadocia

Early-April Türkiye with turquoise Antalya coast, low-rise resort gardens and Cappadocia balloons

Typical coastal conditions: Antalya and Belek reach around 20–23°C by day and 11–15°C in the evening, with sea temperatures near 18–20°C. Bodrum can be slightly cooler and more changeable. Cappadocia is typically 13–18°C by day and 2–7°C at night, with much cooler air at altitude.

Flight time: About 4–4½ hours to Antalya or Istanbul.

Antalya and Belek are warming beautifully by April, with long lunches, archaeological visits and hotel gardens beginning to feel alive. Cappadocia is even more compelling: clear spring mornings, valley walks and balloon flights without the intense heat of summer.

The contrast matters. A coastal all-inclusive may offer sunshine and heated pools, while Cappadocia requires layers and comfortable walking shoes.

Best for: Families, groups, all-inclusive comfort and couples combining coast with culture.

Less suitable for: Anyone wanting dependable sea swimming across the whole coastline, or travellers expecting identical weather between Antalya and Cappadocia.

Calm hotel style: Low-rise resorts in Belek or quieter coastal areas, away from the busiest strips. Raheem Tours can also look for beautiful hotel locations that feel peaceful rather than overly lively, with upgraded transfers where available.

🇮🇹 Italy: Easter processions, blossom and long lunches

Typical conditions: Sicily and Puglia are around 18–22°C by day and 10–14°C in the evening, with sea temperatures of 16–18°C. Rome is usually 17–20°C by day and 9–12°C at night. Northern Italy and the Lakes can be cooler, around 14–18°C by day, with fresher evenings.

Flight time: Approximately 2¾–3½ hours to southern Italy; around 2½–3 hours to Rome or northern airports.

Italy is a strong choice when your ideal Easter holiday means culture, food and beautiful streets rather than constant beach weather. Sicily brings citrus blossom and ancient landscapes; Puglia offers whitewashed towns and olive groves; Rome fills with processions, churches and spring energy; the Lakes are atmospheric, but not reliably warm.

Best for: Couples, cultural travellers, food lovers, groups and elegant city breaks.

Less suitable for: Young children who need a guaranteed pool-and-beach routine, or anyone looking for dependable sea swimming.

Calm hotel style: Masserie in Puglia, garden hotels outside historic centres and boutique stays in quieter Sicilian towns.

🇪🇸 Spain and 🇵🇹 Portugal: spring at its most expressive

Typical conditions: Andalusia reaches around 20–23°C by day and 10–14°C in the evening, with sea temperatures near 16–18°C. The Algarve is usually 19–22°C by day and 11–14°C at night, with sea temperatures around 17–18°C. Madeira sits near 18–21°C by day and 14–16°C in the evening, with sea temperatures around 19°C.

Flight time: Approximately 2½–3 hours to Spain or the Algarve, and just under 4 hours to Madeira.

Seville is fragrant with orange blossom, while Semana Santa brings solemn, remarkable processions through the city. The Algarve suits golf, cliff walks and peaceful lunches; Madeira offers levada walks, gardens and ocean views. These are warm spring destinations, not guaranteed swimming holidays.

Best for: Culture, walking, city breaks, couples and groups.

Less suitable for: Travellers who want hot beach weather every day.

Calm hotel style: Courtyard hotels outside Seville’s busiest lanes, village stays in the Algarve and hillside properties in Madeira.

🇯🇵 Japan’s late cherry-blossom possibility

Typical Tohoku conditions: Around 12–17°C by day and 4–9°C in the evening. Sea temperatures are approximately 10–13°C.

Flight time: There is no usual direct London–Sendai service; allow roughly 18 hours or more with a connection, depending on the route.

Early April can be a rewarding window for Tohoku and northern Japan, particularly if you want spring landscapes without building the whole trip around a fixed blossom date. Sakura timing shifts each year and varies by location, so flexible dates are essential.

Choose Japan for temples, gardens, rail journeys, regional food and cultural depth, not a beach holiday.

Best for: Couples, solo travellers and curious groups.

Less suitable for: Families seeking a simple all-inclusive break or guaranteed warm weather.

Calm hotel style: Ryokan, small design hotels and onsen stays outside the busiest city centres.

☀️ If warm swimming weather is the priority

For a reliably warm Easter week, look beyond southern Europe.

  • Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah: Around 33–37°C by day, 21–25°C at night, with sea temperatures near 26°C. Flight time is about 7 hours. Best for luxury resorts, warm sea and effortless service. Ras Al Khaimah is generally calmer and more beach-focused than Dubai.
  • Cape Verde: Around 25°C by day and 19–21°C in the evening, with sea temperatures around 23–24°C. Approximately 5½–6 hours from the UK. Breezy, warm and resort-friendly.
  • Canary Islands: Around 23–24°C by day and 16–18°C at night, with sea temperatures around 19–20°C. About 4–4½ hours. One of the best short-haul compromises.
  • Morocco: Marrakech and Agadir can reach around 24–26°C by day, with cooler evenings. Agadir’s Atlantic sea is around 18–19°C. Flight time is roughly 3–3¾ hours. Choose Morocco for food, souks, riads and culture.
  • Egypt’s Red Sea: Around 29–30°C by day and 18–21°C at night, with sea temperatures near 24°C. Flight time is approximately 5–5½ hours. The strongest value option for true beach weather.

Quiet Ras Al Khaimah beach resort with turquoise water, palm gardens and bright spring sunshine

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Which April escape suits you?

  • Families with young children: Cyprus, the Canaries, Egypt or Ras Al Khaimah, prioritise heated pools, short transfers, familiar food and calm hotel grounds.
  • Families with teenagers: Türkiye, Dubai, Egypt or a Greece itinerary, combine water activities, culture and enough space to relax.
  • Couples: Sicily, Puglia, Madeira, Japan or a quiet Greek island hotel.
  • Groups: Antalya and Belek, Dubai, Cape Verde or a villa-led Italian itinerary.
  • Solo travellers: Japan, Rome, Seville, Madeira or a guided cultural tour with a well-planned daily rhythm.

The best hotel is not always the liveliest one. Our preference is for beautiful but never too lively: low-rise properties with gardens, boutique stays with genuine local character and resorts where school-holiday energy exists without overwhelming the whole experience.

⏳ When should you book?

Book now if you need specific school-holiday dates, adjoining rooms, family suites or a calm all-inclusive hotel. Easter has moved earlier, but many travellers have not yet adjusted their planning. That creates a genuine window for better choice.

If possible, consider late March, before the core Easter week. Prices can be gentler, availability broader and popular destinations quieter. Alternatively, the week after Easter week is often calmer and less expensive than the main break, although you must check your school’s return date carefully.

Our service is designed around real travel needs. Fast, effective and reliable planning, including successful last-minute bookings when availability allows. We can also help compare food options, quieter hotel locations and upgraded transfers.
